Volunteers

Volunteers are the backbone of Special Olympics North Dakota. If you are seeking a volunteer opportunity that can make a difference in your life and the lives of others, Special Olympics North Dakota needs you.

Whether you are coaching an athlete or helping with paperwork, handing out awards or celebrating a victory, timing a runner or escorting them onto the track—you’re touching the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics athletes work hard to overcome the odds and can do so with your help.

Whether you have a little time to commit or a lot, there is a volunteer opportunity waiting for you any time of the year. Volunteer roles are based on your interest and availability, as well as the needs of the teams and programs. Please consider the options below:

  • Coach
  • Area Management Team member
  • Administrative volunteer
  • Chaperon
  • Fund Raiser
  • Official, Scorer, Timer
  • Organizer of local/area games
  • Public Relations
  • Unified Partner

To volunteer as a coach, Unified partner or chaperon you must complete Module 0 training. (Day of event volunteers do not need to complete this training).

 

Steps to completing the SOND Module 0 (General Orientation and Protective Behaviors) Training Requirement

· Complete a Volunteer Application. A copy of your driver's license or other state issued ID must be included to verify your identification. A background check is required for all volunteers 18 years of age or older.

· Review the General Orientation Packet. PDF Version

· Complete and submit the General Orientation quiz. PDF Version

· Complete the Protective Behaviors quiz here. Volunteers 16 years of age or older.

· Results of your Protective Behaviors quiz and proof of completion will be sent to Special Olympics North Dakota by Special Olympics Incorporated.

· The volunteer application and General Orientation quiz may be submitted via fax to: 701-772-1265 or by mail to Special Olympics North Dakota, 2616 S 26th St, Grand Forks ND 58201.
